To be honest, his on screen wife, sybil, was quite fetching in a forbidden kind of way.

Sorry to digress.

Did anybody like keeping up appearances?

Keeping up appearances was strangely fascinating for me. Onslo and his sex starved wife was a good foil for Mrs Bucket.

If you can read this, you are probably literate.

Mother and Son, Australian I know but it was translated into some 65 different languages. It was liked so much in south America that they re-shot the series using locals (spanish)...

Apologies, but Mother and Son was/is a one trick pony and therefore boring.

If you can read this, you are probably literate.

RE: best comedy series ever created?
I've done two comedies of mother and son with my own mother for the local Church concert. Not a bad effort I must say and they loved it. Looking over the series I must admit they had some pretty poor episodes but the "classic" episodes were quite brilliant. A very very popular program in Oz. More popular than most know.

here's my home grown if ya interested.

A little too close to home for you, was it DB?
Everyone I know that hates this show usually have an elderly relative to look after.

1. Fawlty Towers
2. Black Adder ( 1, 2 & 3 series only)
3. Extras
4. The League of Gentlemen
5. Father Ted
6. Monty Python
7. Not the Nine O'clock news
8. The Office (U.K)
9. Little Britain (first & second series ONLY)
10. Alan Partridge (second series)
11. Arrested development
12. Black Books
13. Get Smart
14. the peep show
15. The Simpsons

Don't bother arguing.. or submitting cack handed tripe like 'Friends' or 'Seinfeld'. Arsehats.

I agree with most of these except for Get Smart.

Haven't seen Arrested Development or The Peep Show.

I would also add The Young Ones to the list and possibly the Goodies, although I'm not sure if I'm adding The Goodies because it was that funny or because of the warm and fuzzy childhood memories it gives me.

The Young ones was too juvenile.. ..and the jokes were lame.
The Goodies was more slapstick... i think you've got rose tinted glasses on.

Probably the latter on the Goodies.

What about:
The Fast Show
Absolute Power
A Bit Of Fry and Laurie
Alas Smith and Jones
Now Have I Got News For You
Bottom

Dunno if those all made their way here or not.

Have I got news...is not strictly a comedy series...rather a topical satire based chat show.
Bottom was rubbish..admit it.
I'll give you Fry and Laurie ( although it was a little hit and miss)
Alas smith and jones was a little obvious... jokes for tradesmen.

I think you're being a little hard on Bottom.
Yes, it was stupid because it was supposed to be. Some episodes were lame and others were pretty funny. For me, Rik Mayall is a master of pantomime, if not a little one dimensional.
